2000-2001

Welcome to the official website for the "EYES CAN SEE CLEARLY" fund raising campaign. The EYES we refer to are the "Thermal Imaging Cameras" that firefighters and rescuers use to locate victims in a fire or smoke-filled situation.  These EYES save lives.

The three fire departments in Trumbull, Connecticut, (Long Hill, Trumbull Center, and Nichols) have raised funds to purchase three cameras, one for each department.  The imaging cameras costs $20,000 each.  Our goal, which was to raise $60,000 for the three cameras and necessary accessories, was reached this year.

Please read the letters to the right from Trumbull's Fire Chiefs and from the Chairman of the "EYES" fund raiser.

Thank You to all those who contributed

FIRST CAMERA PURCHASED!
10/12/2000
The "EYES CAN SEE CLEARLY" campaign embarked on fundraising efforts to procure three thermal imaging cameras for the Town of Trumbull on June 24, 2000. The "EYES" committee is pleased to announce completion of its first milestone, namely first camera receipt, on October 12, 2000. This was the result of having generous citizens, businesses, schools and civic groups provide contributions to help defray camera costs. It also included conducting fundraising events, like car washes, a Mohegan Sun bus trip and open-house raffles, to complement the strong citizen and business support.

"EYES" gained assistance from area banks, restaurants and businesses to launch the $1 Helmet Campaign. This was quite successful and exceeded contribution expectations. Additionally a candy campaign, where area businesses and fire department personnel sell candy on behalf of "EYES", continues to provide funds toward our camera goals. "EYES" was also fortunate in having Miller Buick/Ford/Nissan conduct a sales promotion where they contributed money for each car sold to a Trumbull resident. This helped accelerate the purchase of the second camera. In fact, we placed an order with ISG and expect receipt of another milestone, namely the second camera, in November. Considering that program progress is in the fifth month of the twelve month effort with two cameras purchased, we have lots of momentum to successfully complete the three camera goal by June 23, 2001.

THERMAL CAMERA CAMPAIGN REACHES A GOAL
Trumbull Times 7/6/2000
Including the $3,200 raised at Trumbull Day, the fire departments soon will be able to buy one thermal imaging camera. The Eyes Can See Clearly Campaign has raised $17,834 of the $60,000 needed to buy three cameras. Each camera costs about $20,000 and each fire department would receive one. When fire officials receive a $6,000 appropriation from the Town Council, they will be able to buy one camera. The next phase is a corporate campaign. Residents also will be able to participate when they go to Marisa's Ristorante, The Grille and Bar restaurant, First Union Bank and People's Bank. When residents donate $1 at any of these locations, a paper helmet with their name on it will be placed on the wall. Residents can keep track of the fund-raising campaign on the web. When they visit www.tcfd.com and click on the Eyes Can See Clearly logo, they will be taken to a webpage containing information on how much has been raised and who has donated.

THERMAL CAMERA SAVES ANOTHER LIFE
"If we hadn't had the camera, Zachary's chances of surviving would have been slim," said Captain Mike Herron, Director of EMS for the Franklin Fire Department. "It would have taken us a lot longer to search for him, and by then, it probably would have been too late."

CHARLOTTESVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT GETS CAMERA
"Councilors Blake Caravati and Meredith Richards (Vice-Mayor) show their reaction to the Thermal Imager. They have experienced a firefighters environment (first hand) and know how much difference a Thermal Imager makes to saving lives."
